The primary focus of this position is to develop, manage and lead new building projects for the New Builds & Refurbishments Department. New build projects include development of specifications, budgets and schedules in international shipyards involving multicultural engineers, architects, and contractors.

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitate design initiatives relating to new builds. Work closely with stakeholders and project sponsors to understand the concept, objectives, and goals for the requested project.
  • Serve as a liaison between stakeholders, project managers, architects, designers, electrical and safety managers, support staff, Carnival Corporate Ship Building and the shipyard to assure no aspect of the project is overlooked and that project progress is congruent with the original concept.
  • Management of architectural design process including schedule, communication flow and executive presentations.
  • Review drawings and specifications presented by internal and external architects and designers, considering functionality, operational needs and budget.
  • Manage special projects involving general arrangement modifications. 
  • Compose and present business plans, budget analysis and project timelines to upper management and stakeholders in multiple departments. Assure appropriate and accurate information flow both within and outside the organization. 
  • Oversee and provide technical consultation for the development of special projects within a vessel such as multi-media features and outdoor deck amenities. 
  • Provide feedback to Sr. Director, New Builds regarding enhancements and improvements for new building program. Strategize with Sr. Director, New Builds to create high-level departmental goals and objectives. Develop plan to achieve desired vision and department development.
  • Competitive benchmarking of design innovations. Attend relevant industry trade shows to stay abreast of new technology and innovations. Strive to reduce project costs and offer quality improvements. Negotiation of architect/consultant contracts. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture or equivalent experience
  • 5- 7+ years of Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture experience.
  • Strong communication skills, problem resolution experience and proficiency in MS Office, MS Project and CAD.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience leading large-scale new building and ship outfitting projects. At least ten years of relevant experience is preferred. Successful track record in managing a large multicultural staff with diverse skill sets. Ability to make critical decisions regarding vessel construction regarding stated regulations, pressing timelines and controlled budgets.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time. Requires regular movement throughout CCL facilities. May need to stand for long periods of time.

Travel: 25-50% ship and shore-based travel likely

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery. May be requested to work a different shift.

The range for this role’s base salary is $75,900 - $110,000.  Offers to selected candidates will be made on a fair and equitable basis, taking into account specific job-related skills and experience.
