Responsibilities
The Project Manager of Machinery & Energy Efficiency will be responsible for the planning, development, and execution of technical projects to support Marine Operations including but not limited to, WHR (waste heat recovery), machinery cooling/ventilation, and providing support for major projects outside of the specific discipline, where heavy machinery modification is required. The scope of this position is both technical and managerial in nature with a major focus on regulatory compliance, safety and reliability, and finance. Technical decisions and approval shall include equipment and 3rd party vendor selection and technical specification writing to ensure proper integration with existing shipboard systems as well as classification and regulatory compliance. Managerial decisions will revolve around the planning, collaboration, and budgetary aspects of the projects. Challenges to be encountered daily include maintaining progress of ongoing and developing installations as well as facilitating technical program improvements and continued operations for regulatory compliance. Other areas of challenge include staying ahead of planned and pending regulations.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure proper planning and timely execution of technical projects that support Marine Operations in terms of Machinery upgrades and operational Energy savings.
- Efficient and effective implementation of new technical installations and initiative(s): installation, training, system evaluation and improvements.
- Provide expertise and guidance in marine technology and regulatory impact.
- Provide viable solutions and corrective actions required to address issues encountered with the implementation of new technologies, this requires a high level of technical expertise in the specific field in order to ensure no interruptions to the operation, compliance and the continued safe operations of the ships.
- Collaborate with Chief Engineers, Technical Operation Managers, Asset Managers and Class Directors in project planning, implementation, and execution phases.
- Provide the due diligence in investigating and assessing solutions for technical equipment including Machinery, cooling systems, energy conservation, etc.
- Manage the budget related to assigned project(s). This includes periodic reviews with Energy, Class Directors, and Dry Dock Planning Management Office to flag issues and situations that may impact the overall budget. Provide input to annual planning and budgeting process for assigned projects, as applicable.
- Define detailed specifications for work that needs to be performed by 3rd party vendors and clear criteria for QA/QC checks.
- Participate in the commissioning review upon project completion.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years in the maritime industry, related experience. Increasing responsibility throughout career
- Microsoft Office 365, AutoCAD
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong technical and analytical skills to ensure proper equipment selection, implementation, and operation; leadership and management ability to properly plan and execute 2+ projects simultaneously; strong time management skills to keep project(s) moving forward; strong communication skills as collaboration with multiple parties will be necessary; knowledgeable in maritime regulatory framework, rules and guidelines as they relate to Machinery & auxiliary field, ability to work in constantly changing environment and to self-direct work.
Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time. Requires regular movement throughout CCL facilities.
Travel: 25-50% shipboard travel likely
Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
Work Location: This position is classified as “in-office.” As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida Tuesday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Mondays and Fridays. Candidates must be in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.

- Sick Time – All full-time employees receive 80 hours of sick time each year. Part-time with benefits employees receive time off based on the number of hours they work, with a minimum of 60 hours each year.
