Responsibilities
The Manager, Marine Operations Training serves as the business partner and single point of contact for Marine Operations training, including nautical, technical, safety, environmental and HESS related training. The role supports Marine Operations training in alignment with the Corporate Training Framework, including training request review, implementation support, evaluation, version control and periodic review. The incumbent partners with Marine Operations leadership, operational SMEs, working groups, training governance groups, Corporate, Training Operations and other stakeholders to support consistent training delivery, accurate records, compliance, audit readiness and continuous improvement. The role also supports cross-brand collaboration, documentation of training decisions and risks, and follow-up actions through the appropriate governance channels.
Essential Functions:
Program Management and Training Governance
Liaises with and supports all Marine Operations training activities, including ongoing skill development, professional development programs and training requests. Supports Marine Operations training through the appropriate corporate or brand training governance process, including analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation and periodic review. Collaborates with leaders on communication strategies for implementing training programs. Liaises with Corporate, sister brands, training governance groups and other stakeholders to support alignment of programs at CCL. Partners with Crew Operations to support compliance of CSMART programs. Ensures training delivered to shoreside facilities and/or programs is scheduled within the prescribed timeframe and that attendance requirements are fulfilled. Monitors training activities to support effectiveness, cost control and a positive learner experience. Coordinating training rationalization work with Corporate to ensure accuracy, consistency and operational relevance.
Partners with L&D to design and implement training content in GLADIS or equivalent platforms, ensuring materials are validated, uploaded and maintained in compliance with governance standards and operational requirements.
Training Delivery, Content Maintenance and Provider Support
Partners with shipboard leaders, training leads and operational SMEs to support uniform and effective training delivery and implementation. Helps confirm that training content is current, technically accurate and aligned with approved operational standards. Supports ongoing maintenance of Marine Operations training by helping track review dates, version control, updates, revalidation needs and retirement of outdated training materials. Ensures training runs smoothly and that SMEs and participants are supported. Sets up training systems and feedback loops to track delivery. Facilitates training and presentations to appropriate audiences, when needed. Manages relationships with training vendors and providers and supports vendor approval workflows.
Monitoring, Reporting and Records Management
Maintains appropriate and accurate training records and ensures audit requirements are met. Supports implementation and operational use of approved systems and recordkeeping processes provided & governed by Training Governance (L&D). Ensures Marine Operations training records are maintained in the appropriate approved system and supports accurate tracking for compliance, audit and reporting purposes. Reports training compliance to Corporate and CCL through training governance mechanisms, per established guidelines. Tracks and reports training performance using approved reporting standards, including total completions, compliance rates, training load and training quality. Reviews findings, feedback, completion data and quality indicators to identify improvement opportunities and support stronger training outcomes.
Project Management, Risk Documentation and Change Support
Manages training projects by partnering with leaders, vendors, subject matter experts and governance stakeholders. Supports Corporate-led projects within Marine Operations at the brand level. Uses project management tools to keep multiple projects and resources on track and communicates progress, expectations or challenges with stakeholders appropriately. Helps document training decisions, changes, risks and follow-up actions when requirements change or when training needs to be escalated through the appropriate governance process. Collaborates with stakeholders in developing and executing effective change management strategies for project rollouts.
Consultation, Cross-Brand Alignment and Continuous Improvement
Serves as the single point of contact for Marine Operations training needs. Provides internal stakeholders with guidance on training processes, requirements and improvement opportunities. Evaluates training needs with SMEs, Shipboard Leaders, Marine Professional Development Team and other Shoreside Leaders to help identify training gaps, duplicate or overlapping training, and improve consistency across Marine Operations training programs. Knowledgeable on training governance processes to ensure training is aligned with the organization’s culture and people philosophy. Leads the delivery and continuous improvement of marine training by reviewing content with SMEs, monitoring PDR development needs and compliance, monitoring training program effectiveness, curriculum adherence and training completion trends. In consultation with SMEs and industry experts, ensures that marine training regulatory requirements are accurately interpreted, communicated and mitigated appropriately.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Scope: The Manager, Marine Operations Training serves as the primary training partner and single point of contact for Marine Operations training. Oversees training compliance and program effectiveness while collaborating with corporate and operational stakeholders.
Problem solving: Analyzes training needs, compliance requirements, operational challenges, and performance data to develop effective training solutions. Resolves complex issues involving regulatory requirements, governance standards, stakeholder priorities, and program effectiveness.
Impact: Ensures Marine Operations training programs meet regulatory, compliance, and operational standards. Contributes to workforce readiness, audit preparedness, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Leadership: Provides guidance on training, manages multiple priorities, and drives accountability without direct supervisory responsibility.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Marine Nautical, Technical, Environmental, Education, Business, Human Resources, or a related field. Advanced education or professional certifications in Training & Development are preferred.
Required Certifications: Licensed nautical Engineer, Deck officer, or Degree in Environmental Science or Education. Qualifications in Training & Development is advantageous.
Knowledge of maritime training regulations, training governance and training development required.
Proficiency in Office 365 for Business required. Working knowledge of LMS platforms, training records, reporting tools and version control processes is advantageous.
Working knowledge of learning management systems, course authoring tools, corporate training frameworks, training matrices and audit-related recordkeeping is advantageous.
Corporate experience managing projects and multiple stakeholders; partnership across different levels of leadership and collaboration with remote employees; managing a function independently in a corporate setting; learning and development experience; research and analysis of complex requirements; experience supporting training governance, reporting, supplier coordination or cross-brand alignment.
Research, analyze and interpret complex regulatory and legal training requirements; manage multiple projects with minimal supervision; maintain accurate training records; support governance documentation; identify duplicate or outdated training; communicate clearly with shipboard and shoreside stakeholders; demonstrate organizational skills, effective time management, interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication, self-direction, continuous learning and training development skills.
At least 7 years of shipboard experience as a nautical, environmental or technical officer with personnel training experience is required.
Experience in a corporate setting with cross-functional collaboration, governance processes or training project coordination is advantageous.
Travel: 25-50% with shipboard travel likely
Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
This position is classified as “in-office.” As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida Monday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Fridays. Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.
