Job Description


The Supervisor, Health Finance at Carnival Corporation leverages their strong knowledge and expertise to supervise the financial operations of the health finance team. They possess a sound understanding of departmental policies, procedures, and regulations, and serve as a liaison between health finance, case management, external vendors, internal accounts payable and finance teams, ensuring effective coordination and communication. 

The Supervisor, Health Finance - actively participates in Accounts Payable activities for the Healthcare Finance Team involving day-to-day approval, monitoring, team management, and provider conversations. The supervisor has an active role in large-scale initiatives that require collaboration with other departments. They represent the finance team in cross-functional projects, leveraging their advanced technical skills to automate and streamline processes. Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement, motivate and organize their team, and work closely with cross-functional teams to develop strategies that enhance financial effectiveness and overall operational performance. They facilitate the automating of processes using advanced technical expertise in data cleaning, gathering, and visualization.

This role will interface with all brands, medical teams onboard, shoreside health services and public health leaders as well as external vendors that manage our healthcare systems. 

Essential Functions:

  • Business Operations:
    • Oversee the Health Finance Associates to ensure all department payments are reviewed, accurate coding is applied, and recording to appropriate medical claims is captured and processed within contracted term dates.
    • Approve department invoices for medical services, suppliers, equipment purchases and equipment maintenance, while monitoring for accuracy.
    • Lead the Health Finance Associates to provide day-to-day guidance on GL coding, resolution of discrepancies.
    • Implement and/ establish strategic plans and objectives based on department business operations.
    • Monitor the consistent operation of all daily accounts payable related functions resulting in a timely and accurate month end close.
    • Analyse cost and pricing to identify additional discount opportunities. 
    • Collaborate with Case Management team in the review of high-cost medical claims.
    • Work closely with company finance and accounts payable department to acquire needed financial reports and obtain assistance with systems issues and/or payment delays.
  • Financial Planning and Reports:
    • Assist the Director, Health Administration & Finance and Manager, Health Finance in preparing and reviewing analytical data within company systems.
    • Support the department with the preparation of financial, operational and management reports.
  • Staffing:
    • Manage staff by effectively developing, mentoring, and assessing their performance.
    • Provide initial and ongoing training of new hires.
    • Monitor daily performance, utilizing your expertise in systems and technology to gather and analyse relevant data, and present key performance indicators and insights to stakeholders.
    • Collaborate closely with leadership to develop, maintain, and refine the team’s standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Act as a resource and mentor for team members, providing ongoing guidance and support in navigating complex systems and technologies, troubleshooting challenges, and promoting best practices.
  • Vendor Relations:
    • Assist with vendor inquiries in terms of escalated issues for missing payments and invoice discrepancies.
    • Maintain effective working relationships with external partners and suppliers.
  • General administration:
    • To complete all ad hoc projects and other duties as per management assignments.
    • Assist with internal department audits.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Health Administration, Finance, or Accounting. 
  • 5+ years of work experience with similar scope and responsibilities is required. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Works
  • Strong written, communication and organizational skills. ADD AP Experience. Add previous managerial experience.
  • Medical AP Experience, Financial Analytics, Medical Terminology, Medical revenue cycle exposure. Ability to handle billing issues and disputes.  Ability to code and approve high volumes of invoices via different pay-site platforms.         

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to apply analytical and logistic skills; maintain attention to detail and accuracy.  Proficiency in the use of computer business applications with a working knowledge of Word and Excel.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with providers, ship personnel, employees, internal departments, and management.  Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple and competing priorities.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

Travel: No

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

This position is classified as "in-office." As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida from Tuesday through Thursday.  Employees may work from home on Mondays and Fridays. Some positions may require additional in-office time each week and final schedule is determined by your leader.  Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.

    • Sick Time – All full-time employees receive 80 hours of sick time each year.  Part-time with benefits employees receive time off based on the number of hours they work, with a minimum of 60 hours each year.
