Responsibilities
The FOC Watch Leader serves as the shoreside watch stander/leader in the Carnival Cruise Line, Miami-based Fleet Operations Center (FOC), monitoring current fleet operations, responding to irregular deck, engine, and hotel issues, coordinating ship deviations, and interacting with multiple shore side departments to provide robust situational awareness and decision-making support for senior shore side and shipboard leaders. Shared services to support the HAG (Holland America Line, Princess, Seabourn, P&O Australia.
Essential Functions:
- Support routine fleet current operations. Create and deliver reports, notifications, and briefs on fleet activities, deviations, and events.
- Manage near-term operational issue responses, to include coordinating with shipboard leadership teams, shore side marine & hotel operations personnel, and external public and private partners. Includes evaluating information generated in decision-support tools.
- Coordinate with shipboard and shoreside leadership teams to develop courses of action in response to itinerary deviations, short-notice ship requirements, and disruptive events.
- Monitor for irregular conditions that may cause itinerary deviations or necessitate operational changes. When possible, in agreement with shoreside leadership, propose proactive courses of action to maintain continued safe ship operations and avoid negative guests’ experience.
- Manage situational awareness displays, ensuring accuracy of reporting data and availability of current operational data for multiple Carnival and HAG operational divisions.
- When required, notify senior company leaders of situations that present potential danger to guest, crew, and vessels. Proactively monitor and notify in case of potential media exposure. Activate and moderate Carnival Irregular Operations Team (CIOT) conferences, and/or activate the Shore Side Incident Response Plan (SIRP) as requested for CCL and HAG. Provide associated support to CMG FOC as requested or directed.
- Assist, as directed, in nautical itinerary development, and resolution of operational nautical issues. This will also include support to developing long term berthing plans and arrangements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- 5+ years leadership experience in ship operations and safety related functions. Served as a ship’s deck, engine officer or guest services, preferably of significant vessels in the cruise industry, the tanker/offshore industry, or other shipping sectors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills effective communication skills across multiple media forms
- Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills high degree of self-motivation, tenacity, and drive.
Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
Travel: Ship based
Work Conditions: Must be able to work night and weekend shifts. Typical shift is 12 hours. Responsible for reporting information related to environmental releases or inadequate performance of environmental pollution protection equipment, system casualties resulting in internal spills, excessive waste development and leaking equipment with oil-to-sea interfaces. Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. May be requested to work a different shift.
This position is classified as “in-office.” Because of the nature of the role, employees are required to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida five days each week. Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.

- Sick Time – All full-time employees receive 80 hours of sick time each year. Part-time with benefits employees receive time off based on the number of hours they work, with a minimum of 60 hours each year.
