Responsibilities
The Director, Maritime Cyber Safety Engineering leads the strategy, design, implementation, and operational readiness of cyber safety engineering capabilities that protect operational technology (OT) systems across the global fleet. The role establishes secure and resilient engineering standards for shipboard OT environments, directs the deployment and lifecycle management of cyber defense technologies, and partners with operating lines, Maritime functions, IT, compliance, and vendors to integrate effective controls into vessel systems and projects. The Director serves as a senior technical authority and escalation point for OT cyber risks and incidents, maintains fleetwide visibility of OT assets and vulnerabilities, and develops a high-performing engineering team. The role is accountable for disciplined delivery, financial stewardship, technical documentation, and alignment with the company’s cyber safety framework, safety management system, and applicable maritime cybersecurity requirements.
Essential Functions:
Define and execute the global Maritime Cyber Safety Engineering strategy, architecture, standards, and multi-year technology roadmap for shipboard OT environments.
Lead the design, evaluation, implementation, integration, and lifecycle management of fleetwide OT cyber defense technologies and engineering controls.
Establish secure OT architecture and network segmentation standards that protect critical vessel systems while supporting safety, availability, maintainability, and business operations.
Direct engineering delivery across operating lines, Maritime functions, IT, project teams, shipboard stakeholders, and vendors, ensuring solutions meet approved technical, cybersecurity, and operational-readiness requirements.
Establish an engineering service-delivery model, technical governance, design-review practices, implementation standards, and performance measures for global Maritime Cyber Safety Engineering.
Maintain fleetwide technical visibility of OT assets, connectivity, vulnerabilities, control coverage, and risk-based remediation priorities in partnership with Cyber Safety Operations and Compliance.
Serve as a senior technical escalation point for OT cyber incidents and high-risk vulnerabilities; support investigation, containment, recovery, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action planning.
Develop and maintain engineering standards, reference architectures, design documents, as-built records, configuration baselines, test plans, and procedures within approved document-management and safety-management systems.
Lead, coach, and develop Maritime Cyber Safety managers, engineers & analysts; establish clear accountability, technical development plans, succession readiness, and a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Manage engineering budgets, forecasts, contracts, licenses, equipment, and vendor performance in accordance with departmental financial controls and sourcing requirements.
Evaluate emerging threats, technologies, and maritime cybersecurity requirements; translate relevant changes into practical engineering requirements and prioritized improvements.
Develop and deliver technical training and knowledge-transfer programs for shoreside and shipboard stakeholders responsible for operating and supporting cyber safety controls.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong knowledge of operational technology (OT), industrial control systems (ICS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), distributed control systems (DCS), and industrial networking principles.
Demonstrated expertise in secure network and system architecture, segmentation, remote access, identity and access controls, vulnerability management, security monitoring, configuration management, and resilient engineering.
Understanding of maritime operations and shipboard systems, including bridge, navigation, communications, propulsion, machinery management, power management, safety, access control, and cargo-related environments.
Ability to translate cyber risks, regulatory obligations, and business requirements into practical engineering standards, technical designs, and implementation roadmaps.
Strong leadership, people-management, coaching, vendor-management, budgeting, and resource-planning capabilities.
Proven ability to lead complex, fleetwide technology initiatives in a matrixed, multinational environment and coordinate across operating lines, technical teams, shipboard stakeholders, and third parties.
Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, decision-making, and risk-prioritization skills, with sound judgment in safety- and availability-critical environments.
Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to communicate technical risk and investment needs to executive and operational audiences.
Strong technical documentation skills, including reference architectures, network diagrams, design specifications, implementation plans, test plans, configuration baselines, and as-built documentation.
Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, maritime cyber guidance, classification requirements, flag and port-state expectations, and applicable laws and regulations.
Ability to support cyber incidents and critical operational needs outside normal business hours and to travel aboard vessels when required.
High level of integrity, professionalism, accountability, and commitment to a speak-up culture and continuous improvement.

Essential/Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred. CISSP, GICSP, or a comparable cybersecurity or OT security certification is preferred.
Essential Experience Required:
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in cybersecurity, OT/ICS engineering, network or systems engineering, or a related field, including experience leading technical teams and delivering complex solutions in a global or highly regulated environment. Maritime, transportation, critical infrastructure, or safety-critical industry experience is strongly preferred.
Travel: 25-50% with shipboard travel likely
Work Conditions Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Work beyond normal business hours or on weekends may be required occasionally to support business needs, projects, incidents, or operations.
Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time. Requires regular movement throughout company and shipboard facilities.
***This position is classified as “in-office.” As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida Monday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Fridays. Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.
