Responsibilities
The ADA Compliance CAD Drafter at Carnival Cruise Line is responsible for ensuring that all technical drawings comply with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The drafter collaborates closely with the accessibility team and other departments to ensure that all designs adhere to ADA standards and guidelines.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure ADA Compliance: Collaborate closely with the accessibility team, architects, designers, and other departments to ensure all designs comply with ADA standards and guidelines, while maintaining comprehensive documentation and understanding project scopes.
- Create and Update Technical Drawings: Develop and update detailed 2D technical plans that incorporate ADA compliance features, such as accessible cabins, restrooms, and public areas. Ensure all designs comply with ADA, IMO (International Maritime Organization), and other maritime accessibility regulations.
- Maintain Drawing Library: Oversee and manage a comprehensive library of technical drawings, CAD files, design standards, and compliance documentation. Ensure all materials are organized meticulously, kept up-to-date, and compliant with ADA standards.
- Onboard Inspections: Conduct inspections during operations or dry dock to verify ADA compliance and assess as-built conditions. Suggest new approaches to issues encountered and provide recommendations for changes in methods, procedures, and plans.
- Ensure ADA Compliance: Develop and maintain detailed schedules to chronologically organize the design review process. This includes coordinating with the accessibility team, architects, designers, and other departments to ensure timely reviews and approvals, tracking progress, and updating timelines as necessary to reflect changes in project scope or priorities. Work alongside other architects/interior designers to foster creativity, assist with project workload, and enhance design quality.
- Review recently completed projects. Compare the finished results to the design specifications and renderings. Collaborate with the ADA Team, the Design Team, and PMs to create a work list for items needing rework. Assist the team in developing presentations, visuals, and supplemental materials for contractors. Convene, when necessary, with outside consultants, such as marine architects, interior design firms, and outfitting contractors, to outline and communicate the company’s interior design needs and requirements regarding ADA compliance, aesthetics, functionality, and durability.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Architectural Drafting, CAD Design, or a related field or equivalent from a technical school; or Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years of experience.
- 3+ years of experience using AutoCAD in the shipbuilding or construction industry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to translate complex specifications and markups into precise 2D technical plans. Experience in maintaining a comprehensive library of technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of ADA Standards for Accessible Design and accessibility regulations.
- Experience with shipbuilding, hospitality design, or commercial interiors is a plus.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and MicroStation knowledge is a plus.
- Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint proficiency plus.
Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
Travel: 25-50% with shipboard travel likely
Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
This position is classified as “in-office.” As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida Tuesday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Mondays and Fridays. Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.
Offers to selected candidates will be made on a fair and equitable basis, taking into account specific job-related skills and experience.

Part-time with benefits employees receive time off based on the number of hours they work, with a minimum of 84 hours/year. All employees gain additional vacation time with further tenure.
- Sick Time – All full-time employees receive 80 hours of sick time each year. Part-time with benefits employees receive time off based on the number of hours they work, with a minimum of 60 hours each year.
