The Fuel and Energy Buyer supports the procurement and operational management of marine bunker fuels for over 95 cruise vessels operating in over 800 global destinations. The role will encompass global supply of all compliant marine fuels in a high-pressure, highly regulated, fast paced volatile commodity market- directly contributing to the safe and efficient bunker of all ships. This role focuses on accurate order processing, spot purchasing, contract administration, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. The position requires strong attention to detail, compliance with established procedures, and effective communication to ensure timely fuel delivery and cost optimization. After initial training, the role includes rotational 24/7 on-call support for operational needs..

Essential Functions:

  • Order Management: Plays a important role managing fuel requirements from the global fleet, verifying product availability and quality in over 180 fueling ports. Supports in pricing validation for over a $2billion in direct annual spend. Enters internal orders accurately into the purchasing system while managing 40% change orders with constant end to end purchasing responsibility that requires monitoring order status, confirmation of operational critical order details including location, product quality, delivery dates, mode of delivery, and price that can exceed $1million dollars per delivery.  This position will have the authority to bind the company high valued fuel commitments.

  • Spot Purchasing: Negotiate spot purchases under $1M following approval workflows for all fuel types, HSFO, VLSFO, MGO, LNG, and Bio fuel alternatives. Obtain market quotes in a highly volatile complex commodity market. Communication with both internal and external stakeholders and flag potential issues, delays, product quality, or price discrepancies.

  • Contract Administration and Price validation: Assist in preparing spot & contract documents, preform pricing analysis to understand various global fuel indices and calculate last mile logistics costs to ensure optimal pricing and validation. Collect required documentation and review contract or spot agreement for end-to-end purchase flow.

  • Operational Coordination: Learn vessel and port operations within assigned brands and or regions. Communication with Chief Engineers, shoreside teams, and suppliers. Support monthly forecast demand planning and continuous improvement initiatives.  Maintain commercial claims log and upload supporting documents.

  • Compliance & Technical Support:  Ensure accurate data handling and timely documentation. Understand ISO 8217 fuel parameters and claim eligibility criteria. Proficient in internal customized fuel purchasing system for order and cost optimization. Support supplier setup process and maintain clear and prompt email and verbal correspondence for operational global support across all time zones.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Scope:  This role operates across both shore-based teams and fleet operations, supporting all global cruise brands. Responsibilities impact fuel procurement and delivery for vessels worldwide, ensuring compliance and cost optimization. The position serves as a critical link between suppliers, operations, and engineering teams, influencing day-to-day fuel logistics and strategic sourcing decisions.

  • Problem solving:   Requires resolving operational challenges such as delivery delays, pricing discrepancies, and documentation gaps. Involves applying standard operating procedures while exercising judgment to escalate issues and propose solutions. Must balance cost efficiency with operational continuity under time-sensitive conditions, often coordinating across multiple stakeholders.

  • Impact: Directly affects vessel readiness, operational continuity, and emission compliance through timely and accurate fuel supply. Contributes to cost control and compliance within the global sourcing discipline. Supports risk mitigation by ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to contractual and regulatory standards.

  • Leadership:

  • This role will not have a direct reports but requires high levels of operational, procurement, and problem solving skills in order to manage a dynamic, highly volatile commodity within a stringent emission regulatory framework  that is mission critical to our global operations.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Marine Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). 3-5 years in procurement, transportation, supply chain, or marine operations. Preferred experience in maritime or energy sector but not mandatory.  Exposure to order management and vendor communication. Basic knowledge of contract administration and purchasing workflows. Experience in handling documentation and compliance processes.

  • Basic understanding of marine fuel grades and specifications. Familiarity with ISO 8217 standards and compliance requirements. Strong organizational and data management skills. Effective communication skills for internal and external coordination. Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.

Travel:  Less than 25% with non-shipboard travel likely

Work Conditions: Work beyond normal business hours or on weekends may be required occasionally to support business needs, projects, or operations.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

This position is classified as “in-office.”  As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida Tuesday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Mondays and Fridays.  Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.

    • Sick Time – All full-time employees receive 80 hours of sick time each year.  Part-time with benefits employees receive time off based on the number of hours they work, with a minimum of 60 hours each year.
