Job Summary:
A Purchasing Agent at Carnival Cruise Lines is responsible for managing the procurement of goods and services necessary for shipboard Operations. Key responsibilities include sourcing and negotiating with suppliers, reviewing vendor confirmations, and addressing out-of-stock items through research and alternative sourcing. The role demands strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both shoreside and shipboard teams. Candidates should possess excellent communication and teamwork abilities, as they will liaise with various departments to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement solutions. A background in supply chain management or purchasing, along with proficiency in relevant software and systems, is essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and possess the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Essential Functions:
- Review confirmations from vendors and source out-of-stock items from other vendors by researching and identifying supply options and/or substitutions.
- Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and favorable contract terms
- Coordinate with the logistics team to manage the timely delivery of goods to shipboard locations.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and other relevant data in procurement systems.
- Monitor inventory levels and forecast demand to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential goods.
- Collaborate with shoreside and shipboard teams to address procurement- related issues and challenges.
- Evaluate supplier performance and conduct periodic reviews to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Participate in cost reduction initiatives and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Provide training to new staff members in assigned areas of responsibility as requested by Management.
- Handle other projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Manager.
Qualifications:
- Minimum educational attainment of Bachelor's Degree related to Supply Chain
- 3 to 5 years of experience in supply chain operations, procurement, and expediting
- Oracle Iproc procurement, Crunchtime, and Excel skills.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- The role requires strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various departments, including culinary, beverage, and hotel services. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as the agent will need to liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure the smooth operation of the cruise line's services.
