Job Description
The Nurse delivers safe, evidence‑informed care within the scope of nursing practice and without the need for ongoing clinical supervision. The role includes triage and first response, stabilization and preparation for transfer, diagnostic testing (e.g., laboratory testing, EKGs, X‑rays), medication administration and calculations, accurate clinical documentation, and timely, compassionate communication with patients, caregivers, and colleagues. The Nurse operates medical equipment safely, maintains complete health records, participates in clinics and on‑call rotation, and functions as an effective member of a multidisciplinary medical team. The role also supports public health and infection prevention and control measures, contributes to medical center administration, and consistently upholds patient privacy, safeguarding, and a positive patient experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Care
- Deliver safe, evidence‑informed nursing care aligned to current guidelines; complete nursing and risk assessments and develop care plans per policy.
- Respond to emergency calls, perform triage, first response, and acute stabilization; prepare patients for appropriate transfer.
- Conduct diagnostic testing (laboratory tests, EKGs, X‑rays) and demonstrate level‑appropriate procedural skills and competency in drug computations, dispensing, and administration.
- Operate and troubleshoot medical equipment appropriately and safely, reporting discrepancies or malfunctions to the Site Physician; ensure health records are accurate, concise, timely, and complete.
- Communicate with the Carnival Corporation Health Operations Center (HOC) regarding any potential evacuations from the island.
- Communicate clinical reasoning clearly and empathetically, using non‑technical language when appropriate; demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity in age, gender identity, ability, and socioeconomic status.
- Adhere to privacy policies for handling personal and sensitive health information; promptly assist with evaluation of complaints and participate in service‑recovery strategies.
Employee Health
- Contribute to all employee wellness endeavors including medical screenings, wellness initiatives, education programs, health promotion activities, and chronic disease management.
Professional & Leadership Responsibilities
- Exercise sound time‑management and organizational skills; recognize limits of competence and escalate appropriately; seek and act on feedback and audit findings.

- In cooperation with the site physician and shoreside health leadership, develop and implement medical response protocols.
- Train and conduct drills with the departments involved in medical response such as water safety and security.
- Promote a harmonious, collaborative, working environment and contribute equitably to workload and on‑call schedules.
Public Health & Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
- Maintain accurate, timely public health records; apply disease‑specific IPC measures and appropriate PPE to mitigate transmission.
- Participate in management of infectious disease events
Medical Center Administration & Financial Stewardship
- Generate accurate patient bills in compliance with procedures; assist in monitoring costs, expenditures, and inventory efficiencies; suggest cost‑saving and revenue‑enhancing initiatives.
- Maintain cost‑efficient par levels for pharmacy and supplies; conduct routine facility, equipment, and supply checks per policy; assist with maintenance follow‑up and timely deficiency reporting.
- Schedule and coordinate patient visits, follow‑ups, screenings, wellness visits, and vaccination programs; use all relevant IT systems proficiently to support clinical and administrative workflows.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to the guidelines and ethical principles of the applicable professional registration body and to company procedures and standards.
- Perform General Emergency Organization duties per the ship’s Emergency Response Plan; maintain compliance with hours‑of‑rest requirements and demonstrate flexibility with on‑call rosters.
- Identify and report potential patient safety risks; participate in investigations, root‑cause analyses, audits, inspections, and corrective‑action implementation.
- Integrate global safety, environmental, and operating procedures into daily practice and support continuous improvement in quality and safety.

- Adherence to privacy, safeguarding, and all applicable professional and ethical standards.
- Effective time‑management and organizational skills with dependable follow‑through.
- Computer literacy and able to use electronic health records, MS Office programs and MS Windows 7 or higher
- Company policy approved visible tattoos and piercings, as per specific policy
- Demonstrated ability to maintain complete, accurate health records while ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Experience in infection prevention and control, public health reporting, and participating in or supporting outbreak response activities.
- Experience operating diagnostic equipment such as EKG machines and basic radiography equipment (where permitted).
- Experience performing laboratory testing and managing medication administration and calculations.
- Proficiency in clinical documentation, billing accuracy, inventory management, and the use of clinical information systems.
- A strong record of effective teamwork, patient‑centered communication, and service recovery, particularly in diverse and multicultural environments.
- Consistent commitment to safety, continuous quality improvement, and ongoing professional development.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Academic diploma or bachelor’s degree in nursing, or higher
- Professional registration with a nursing board or council, or an appropriate governmental regulatory body
- Current unrestricted license to practice granted by the respective professional registration institution
- At least three years of post-registration experience in total
- Minimum of two years of experience in emergency settings or acute care preferred
- Continuous valid ACLS/ALS certification for the whole length of employment;
- Continued clinical practice experience for at least the last three years, and currently working on direct patient care
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Command of the English language, both verbal and written;
- Outstanding interpersonal, customer service and communication skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with cultural sensitivity.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Not a current smoker nor in a smoking cessation program for less than 180 days
- Must be physically fit.
- Must have strong customer service skills.
- May need to stand for long periods of time.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Flexibility to work variable schedules, including on‑call rotations, nights, weekends, and holidays.
