The Assistant Marine Technician supports the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of vessels and marine equipment by working closely with senior technicians and supervisors at one or more Carnival Corporation owned and operated global destination. This role involves assisting with inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of boat engines, propulsion systems, electrical components, safety equipment, and auxiliary systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety and environmental standards. Responsibilities also include performing routine maintenance tasks, monitoring equipment functionality, and providing on-site technical assistance as needed. In addition, the Assistant Marine Technician contributes to logistical support, helps maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs, and ensures tools, spare parts, and materials are organized and available. By supporting both technical and administrative functions, this role plays an important part in keeping marine operations safe, efficient, and reliable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Maintenance & Repair Support 

  • Assist in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on vessels and marine equipment, including engines, propulsion systems, steering systems, and auxiliary machinery.
  • Support troubleshooting and diagnostics of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues under the supervision of senior technicians.
  • Conduct basic servicing tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and adjustments to ensure reliable operation.
  • Help maintain and organize tools, spare parts, and workshop equipment, ensuring readiness for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
  • Provide support during overhauls or upgrades of equipment and systems to extend service life and improve efficiency.

Safety & Compliance 

  • Assist in implementing and monitoring safety standards, procedures, and best practices during repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect and test safety equipment such as life jackets, fire extinguishers, alarms, and emergency systems to confirm compliance with regulations.
  • Support environmental protection measures, including proper handling and disposal of oils, fuels, and waste materials.
  • Report potential hazards, unsafe conditions, or malfunctions immediately to supervisors for corrective action.
  • Participate in safety training sessions and emergency drills to maintain readiness for various scenarios.

Operational & Logistical Assistance 

  • Provide on-site technical assistance during marine operations, including start-up checks, system monitoring, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Assist in coordinating logistics for scheduled maintenance, ensuring required parts and materials are ordered and available.
  • Support vessel readiness by ensuring fueling, provisioning, and system checks are completed prior to operations.
  • Collaborate with other technicians, supervisors, and departments to ensure efficient and safe workflows.
  • Help manage the inventory of spare parts and consumables, ensuring proper storage and usage tracking.

Recordkeeping & Administrative Support

  • Assist with documenting all maintenance, repairs, inspections, and equipment performance in logs and reports.
  • Track service intervals and inspection schedules to ensure timely upkeep of vessels and systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of spare parts usage, procurement requests, and maintenance costs.
  • Support the preparation of compliance reports and operational updates for management review.
  • Help organize digital and physical records to support audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.

SKILLS SPECIFICS:

  • Familiarity with marine systems such as outboard motors, basic electronics, and fuel systems. 
  • Comfortable using hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and following technical instructions. 
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and manual dexterity. 
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including outdoor and onboard conditions. 
  • Willingness to learn and grow under the mentorship of senior technicians. 
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow reporting protocols. 

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required or equivalent experience is required; additional education in Hospitality or a related field is a plus 
  • Technical or vocational training in marine engineering, mechanics, or related field preferred.
  • Relevant certifications in safety, first aid, or marine systems are an advantage. 
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in marine or mechanical maintenance, preferably in a support or junior role. 

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be physically fit. 
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment as needed.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data entry and reporting tools.
  • Detail orientated with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to multi-task and think critically
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong planning and coordination skills, especially in handling multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • May be requested to work a shift schedule while at any of the destinations.
