Responsibilities
The Software Engineer, Global Systems provides technical ownership, management, and support for Carnival Corporation’s Microsoft platform-based Safety Management System application (Global HESS 2.0), including the design, development, implementation, configuration and maintenance of all associated software and hardware components, services, and interfaces. The role leverages industry-recognized cloud design patterns—such as Bulkhead for isolating failures, Retry for handling transient errors, Queue-Based Load Leveling for managing demand, CQRS for efficient data operations, and Saga to maintain data consistency across microservices.
Job Functions:
- Application Development: Design and maintain microservices, APIs, and integration components in C#, utilizing patterns like Publisher/Subscriber and Cache-Aside to ensure efficient, resilient workflows even when connections are intermittent.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with solution architects, infrastructure engineers, and stakeholders to refine requirements, propose technical solutions, and iterate on features to meet safety and operational objectives.
- Observability and Supportability: Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting solutions (e.g., Azure Monitor, Log Analytics), utilizing patterns like Health Endpoint Monitoring for proactive issue detection and rapid remediation.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Use Terraform/Bicep and CI/CD pipelines to provision and manage Azure resources consistently and at scale, supporting rapid deployments and minimizing downtime.
- Security and Compliance: Incorporate Zero Trust principles and secure coding practices into your C# code and infrastructure, following patterns that safeguard data, manage identity, and align with industry regulations.
- Data and Messaging Solutions: Employ SQL Server as a primary data store and leverage messaging technologies (e.g., Kafka, Azure Service Bus) to build event-driven architectures that maintain data integrity and scalability.
- Testing and Quality Assurance: Develop and execute unit, integration, functional, and load tests, leveraging patterns such as Compensating Transaction to maintain consistency when operations fail. Familiarity with developing highly robust systems facilitated by blue-green deployments.
- Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Produce clear technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and runbooks; mentor junior engineers and share best practices for cloud patterns and distributed system design.
- Cloud Design Patterns & Distributed Systems: Apply various cloud patterns (e.g., Bulkhead, CQRS, Queue-Based Load Leveling, Saga) to enhance resilience, scalability, and manageability, ensuring the system can handle fluctuating loads and recover from failures gracefully.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience).
- 5+ years of experience required - Software Engineer for Microsoft-based Content Management System preferred.

(3) SQL Server: Extensive experience with data modeling, querying, and performance tuning in SQL Server environments. (4) Cloud Environments (Azure preferred): Proven ability to build, deploy, and manage services at scale in a public cloud environment. (5) Cloud Design Patterns: Deep understanding of cloud design patterns (e.g., Bulkhead, Retry, CQRS, Queue-Based Load Leveling, Saga, Publisher/Subscriber) and their practical applications.
- Experience in developing web applications using React.js.
- Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3
- Familiarity with responsive design principles
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or Bicep) and CI/CD: Demonstrable experience in automating deployments, managing configurations, and ensuring operational consistency. (2) Containerization and Orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes): Familiarity with packaging applications as containers and orchestrating them at scale.
