Sr. Manager of Interior Design and Architecture
Job Description:
The primary focus of the Senior Manager of Architectural and Interior Design is to manage all aspects of architectural and interior design for the CCL fleet. The Senior Manager is responsible for leading the interior design team with regard to area refurbishment projects and physical/functional improvements. The position encompasses interior design and management responsibilities.
Responsibilities include:
Supervise all design refurbishment activities for the CCL fleet, working on numerous large-scale design projects simultaneously. Offer design inputs for new vessel construction, if solicited.
Manage the interior design team. Oversee their activities and initiatives. Evaluate current project workload to coordinate and schedule assignments accordingly.
Utilize experience in architectural and interior design to serve as a resource to the design team. Provide feedback, support and design solutions.
Work in conjunction with and alongside interior designers to assist with project workload.
Facilitate design requests from CCL Operations. Collaborate with stakeholders and project sponsors to comprehend desired concept and design needs for the requested project.
Develop presentation boards, renderings, drawings, floor plans, elevations, details sections, finishes schedules, lighting/reflective ceiling plans and area specifications, as needed.
Perform an overview of the proposed project budget for feasibility. Identify any potential design issues that may increase cost, and provide adequate solutions to meet the project sponsor’s needs.
Create project specifications using CCL defined formatting guidelines, including defined scope of work, material identification section and related drawings for contractors to utilize when preparing bids and proposals. Participate in the contractor selection process.
Assist in evaluating project contract documents, including drawings and certificates. Review and approve samples and shop drawings involving interior design items submitted by contractors.
Review recently completed projects. Compare finished results to design specifications and renderings. Work with the Director, Quality Control to create a work list for items needing rework.
Communicate with departmental team members and project stakeholders to coordinate design production work. Assist with dry dock projects. Oversee design projects and assess quality and timeliness of completion.
Make recommendations that may improve the maintainability of the interior design elements of the ships. Conduct product research and propose standards for finishes and materials to improve life‐cycle cost effectiveness. Research and approve all proposed substitutes.
Work with CAD drafters to ensure that all modifications to the ships’ interiors are documented into the technical drawing database archives.
Provide feedback to VP of New Builds & Refurbishments in regard to enhancements and improvements that can be made within the design processes. Streamline design procedures to increase efficiency and productivity.
Convene, when necessary, with outside consultants, such as: marine architects, interior design firms and outfitting contractors to outline and communicate the company’s interior design needs and requirements with regard to aesthetics, functionality and durability.
Schedule vendor appointments to assure samples and swatches are updated and the most recent selection.
Attend relevant industry trade shows and educational seminars to stay abreast of ever‐changing regulations, new technology and innovations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven successful experience designing large, public spaces, particularly in the marine environment.
Former design manager capable of managing other interior designers and a large project workload.
Master degree in Interior Design coupled with 10 years of design experience.
Previous experience in marine design is preferred.
Impressive portfolio of previous projects and clientèle.
Exceptional computer skills, including: CAD, MS Excel, MS Project and MS PowerPoint.
